American Tuna was formed by six pole and line fishing families in San Diego, California in 2005. Our mission is to provide a high quality and sustainable canned albacore tuna customers can buy directly from the source. We have 100% traceability for every single albacore harvested, meaning we can trace our final product back to the vessel that caught it! All tuna are caught using the MSC Certified Sustainable Pole & Line Harvest Method in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. Our premium albacore loin steaks are then hand filleted and hand packed, sealed and pressure-cooked, a packing method that retains 100% of the omega-3 fatty acids in the fish. We don't add any oil, water, soy or other fish—just premium albacore in its own natural fish oil!
Our cans are BPA-free and manufactured in America. Pole and line caught albacore tuna are on average 12-20 lbs, making them naturally low in mercury, and we test yearly for mercury concentrations with Columbia Food Labs.
The West Coast is reliant on this fishery to support the small ports and towns that make up its beautiful coastline. Supporting American Tuna is supporting the preservation of artisanal fishermen, micro-canneries and fishing families who helped pioneer the West Coast.
Why Good Eggs loves American Tuna
Canned tuna fish is a staple in most kitchen pantries, but it's hard to find one that's sourced and packed sustainably. Fear not—we've cracked the nut! A tuna that's MSC Certified, line-caught, hand filleted and hand packed in BPA-free packaging, AND it taste delicious?? In addition to all this greatness, the owner is Captain Jack Webster, and he's still the head fisherman.
