Atlantic Sea Farms
Atlantic Sea Farms grows fresh kelp on regenerative kelp farms found along the coast of Maine. A women-owned business, they are vertically integrated and dedicated to finding a solution to the effects climate change has on Maine's coastal waters. In 2009, they created the first commercial seaweed farm as an alternative to imported seaweed. Imported seaweed is typically grown without batch testing or environmental study, often being rehydrated and dyed once arriving to the US. Atlantic Sea Farms' kelp is grown by independent fishermen and women on aquaculture farms in Maine, introducing the first domestically line-grown seaweed to the US market. By growing kelp on regenerative farms in the cold waters of Maine, Atlantic Sea Farms is positively impacting the coastal community economically and environmentally.
