Tomales Farmstead Creamery

Tomales

All of us at Tomales Farmstead Creamery and Toluma Farms consider ourselves farmers and environmentalists. Taking excellent care of the animals and land goes hand-in-hand; you cannot achieve one without the other.

Our family purchased a defunct cow dairy in 2003, never having farmed before...its been quite an amazing journey. The first 4 years were spent restoring the soil (which still continues), water systems, establishing pastures and restoring the milking parlor and barns. In April of 2007, Toluma Farms received Organic Certification for its 160-acre parcel, then we added the 200 goats. In 2008, we were proud to be the first Goat Dairy in Marin County that was certified Animal Welfare Approved. In 2010 we placed the property in a land trust with MALT (Marin Agriculture Land Trust), an amazing organization that has done a great deal to protect lands North of the Golden Gate. We can rest assured that this beautiful piece of land will remain in agriculture use in perpetuity.

Since we needed more animals to maintain the pastures and want to make a mixed milk cheese, sheep were added in 2011. In 2013 the creamery was added and we began producing small batch, hand crafted, artisan cheeses (given Coast Miwok names out of respect to the original inhabitants of Tomales).

Please join us either virtually on facebook or in the flesh. We are open for public tours the first Sunday of the month as well as private tours and events. More info is on our website.
