Juicers and curry-makers rejoice! A new harvest of freshly-dug, barely-cured turmeric is upon us.
This fresh turmeric root is brighter in flavor than its powdered counterpart. Prepare it as you would ginger and add to fresh curries to brighten them up with a slight kick. Turmeric also contains high levels of curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory compound, making it a much sought-after item for adding to fresh fruit and veggie juices.
Almost all commercially available fresh organic turmeric is imported from Peru or Hawaii, but we're lucky to have Whiskey Hill Farms growing this special treat for us just down the road in the Watsonville area. The wonders of heated greenhouses!
