The story of Hambela Gotiti begins in the chaotic aftermath of World War II. After regaining Ethiopian independence, Emperor Haile Se-lassie I awarded Muluemebet Emiru, Africa’s ﬁrst female pilot, a lush farmland with wild coﬀee trees. This land, stretching between the Guji and Sidama regions, was developed into the esteemed Hambela Estate. In its third generation, the family coﬀee business is dedicated to making a diﬀerence in the community, with employment oppor-tunities including a workforce that is over seventy percent women, educational opportunities including university scholarships and sponsorship for a state-of-the-art elementary school with more than 700 students, and healthcare for employees. This particular lot hails from this outpost, and highlights the wonderful nuance and fruit forward complexity that Ethiopian coﬀees have to oﬀer.
