Starflower

These Starflowers are long-lasting and showy fruits of the plant Scabiosa stellata. Jutting vertically up their stems are papery cones that cluster together and form a lightweight geodesic sphere, which highlights the remnants of its bloom in the form of a perfect, thinly-stretched star. Star Flowers are available for a short period during the late spring and early summer, but their vase life (which nears three weeks) makes them treasured table-top decorations that are a sure conversation piece.
