Named for the "Woodsmen" that forage for truffles, mushrooms, and other wild produce in the Chianti and Tuscany regions, this savory sauce contains slices of whole mushrooms and dried thyme for a lovely, aromatic finish. Made locally in on the central coast of California, Ilvento’s Proprio Italiano uses all natural ingredients and no preservatives of any kind. It all started in 1933 at the repeal of prohibition when Joe Ilvento, an immigrant from Grassano, Italy, opened Ilvento’s Restaurant in Jersey City. Joe’s son, Pete became well known for his wonderful tomato sauces. Now, Pete’s son and granddaughter, Joe and Juliana, continue the Ilvento’s tradition by doing a small batch production of these classic Southern Italian style sauces. This product is hand made, bottled and labeled assuring the highest standards. 80 years of Sunday dinners later, we hope you enjoy this traditional family recipe!
