MIKUNA is a Latin-founded, Certified B Corporation with deep roots in agriculture. Our company was founded by Ricky Echanique, setting it on a mission to change the future of food by nourishing people and the planet.
MIKUNA utilizes an ancient source of plant protein from a crop called ‘Chocho’. Chocho is a legume native to the Andes Mountains where it is grown at high elevations between 11,000 to 14,000 feet. It has been harvested for thousands of years by Incan and Tiwanaku farmers using regenerative/sustainable practices and provides an alternative to conventional or industrially grown plant proteins. The chocho plant is drought-tolerant, thrives on rainfall, and fixes nitrogen deep into the soil as it grows, improving soil conditions and its microbiome. From a nutrition perspective, chocho is naturally high in protein, fiber, minerals, and vitamins, making it one of the few whole-food proteins on the market. Most importantly it is lectin and gluten-free.
This powerful plant is good for you, good for the planet, and good for the farming communities where it's grown. MIKUNA makes eating a clean, plant-based diet a nutritious experience without the tradeoffs of a long ingredient list or digestive issues.
