Mavuno Harvest
Founded in 2011 by Phil Hughes, after his eye-opening experiences as a Peace Corps volunteer in a small Kenyan village called Miti Mingi, Mavuno Harvest has been dedicated to transforming the economic landscape for small-scale farmers in rural sub-Saharan Africa. During his service, Phil discovered that farmers typically sold only a third of their harvest, with the rest left to rot. This insight led him to the idea of drying fruit, which not only preserves the food but also opens up new markets, thereby creating jobs and enhancing the farmers' livelihoods.
Mavuno Harvest works directly with small farming cooperatives to produce organic dried fruits that are then sold across the globe, increasing income and job security within these communities. By focusing on creating sustainable and ethical supply chains, Mavuno Harvest not only ensures the economic growth of rural farmers but also offers consumers healthy, organic snacks that support fair trade practices.
