Royal Blenheim Apricots are delicate with a honey-like flavor. Though their production in California has dropped significantly over the years (32,000 tons in 1988 turned into 4,000 tons in 2008), those who know their heavenly taste continue to grow them despite their fragility and lack of shippability.
Though this variety sometimes feels a bit firm on the outside, rest assured that once it's fully colored on the outside, it'll taste incredibly sweet. The reason for this is that the Royal Blenheim actually ripens from the inside out. As the sun hits the fruit, it heats up the stone (pit) which hastens ripening of the flesh near the cavity before the outer flesh.
Enjoy fresh or made into jam.
