Yerena Farms began in the early 1970s, growing conventional berries in Watsonville, California. Initially we sold primarily to packing houses for 10 years. In 1980, we joined the market family in the San Francisco bay area at the historic Alemany Farmer's Market.
From 1980 to 2000, we farmed 60+ acres of strawberries, raspberries and many vegetables. Then in 2000, our family decided to reduce our acreage to 17, and included most of our immediate family as farm workers. In 2001, the transition to organic farming began. And by 2003, Yerena Farms was a certified organic farm.
