The San Francisco Mead Company

The San Francisco Mead Company was founded in 2013 by Oron Benary, who wanted to create mead focused on local, raw ingredients. SF Mead works with small local beekeepers in Mendocino and Sonoma Counties who focus on sustainability and whose bees pollinate organic crops as much as possible. These beekeepers leave the majority of honey for the bees, allowing the colonies to thrive, where most industrial beekeepers remove the honey and supplement the bees' diet with sugar water.

Oron believes the best quality meads come from raw ingredients, so SF Mead never pasteurizes the raw honey or the raw fruit in the melomels (fruit mead) they make. Oron and SF Mead are bringing a modern approach to mead, one of the most ancient fermentation styles. They're committed to finding the highest quality ingredients and creating a wide range of aged meads for their community to enjoy.
