John Lagier is one of only two farmers in the United States to have a mother vine for this endangered variety. The Bronx Grape is a cross between the delicate Seedless Thompson Grape and the intensely perfume-y Concord Grape. The Bronx Grape is on Slow Food USA's Ark of Taste, a catalog of foods with exceptional flavor that are in danger of extinction, in the hopes that exposure will lead to increased production and interest in these foods and keep them around for generations to come.
Please note: Bronx Grapes are generally seedless, but when they do have seeds, they're small and tender enough to be palatable.
