These beautiful and wispy five-petaled pink to white flowers are native to southern Europe and southwest Asia. They're sometimes known as Soapwort, a name derived from the use of the leaves and roots to make shampoos and soaps. The plant is also an ingredient, along with tahini and sugar, in halva, a dessert with Arabic roots.
