Spring is here and like all the great Spring greens (Asparagus, Fava Beans, and English Peas) Fiddlehead ferns are cherished and sought after for their vibrant green color and fresh spring flavor. Although more popular on the East Coast and enjoyed for its grassy Green Bean/Asparagus flavor, Fiddleheads do grow wild in Northern California and have a crunchy firm texture. We generally use them much like Asparagus. It is one of our favorites to pickle to enjoy throughout the year or eat them now and wait for next Spring when we can get our hands on them again.
Please note: We recommend boiling fiddleheads for 15 minutes or steaming them for 10 to 12 minutes before using them in recipes. Fiddleheads shouldn’t be consumed raw.
