This variety was found in Benton County, Arkansas in the mid-1800s and is believed to have come from a Winesap seedling. The Arkansas Black Apples have an almost black, deep-red skin and have a sweet, tart, and wine-like taste and the flesh is yellow, hard, and crunchy. This variety is perfect for baking as well as cider making.
